How to Find Copies of Old High School Yearbooks

Getting your hands on copies of old high school yearbooks can be difficult if you don’t know where to begin. Generally speaking, most high schools keep copies of their yearbooks dating back many years. In addition to school libraries, there are a number of other places to check such as local libraries and even online auction websites as some people decide to sell their copies.

Instructions:

1. Start by checking with the library at your old high school. Most schools keep at a reference copy of their yearbook for every year that they’ve been in existence. Occasionally, due to damage or theft there may be a year missing, but this is generally your best chance at finding a copy of your old high school yearbook.

2. Visit your local library and ask to speak to a librarian. Inform them that you are looking for an old high school yearbook. Many local libraries archive at least one copy per year of a few local high schools.

3. Look online at auction websites such as eBay and in local classified ads such as Craigslist and your local newspaper. Often times, people will sell large lots of yearbooks and you may get lucky and find the one you are looking for.

4. Try to get in touch with old classmates. If you know someone who graduated or attended your school they may have a copy of the yearbook that you want, and it may be fun to reconnect with old classmates too.

5. Post a wanted ad. As a last resort, you can post a wanted ad in your local newspaper or on an online classifieds website like Craigslist. If you are offering an enticing price in your ad, you may convince someone to contact you with a copy they want to sell.

Tips:

Don’t give up on your search too early, sometimes it just takes time. If you’ve gone through all of the steps and can’t find a yearbook you want, just wait a month or so and start over.
