How to Find Part Time Employment for College Students

Finding part time employment for college students has never been easier, especially in the age of the internet. Most local businesses and colleges offer jobs for students that pay well and are quite flexible in order to fit their academic schedules. The process of finding these jobs is quite simple, and can be completed in a short amount of time.

1. Figure out home much time you have to work, apart from your time spent studying. This is one of the most important steps in finding a job. Most places that offer part time employment for college students will work with you, but you need to know how much time you have to give. Many employers have minimum work hours requirements depending upon the specific job, so make sure that you figure this out first.

2. Look up the phone numbers for retail stores near your college and contact them regarding part time employment. Retailers commonly employ college students and they generally offer the second best amount of scheduling flexibility, next to on-campus jobs.

3. Visit your school’s website and navigate to the section that lists available on-campus jobs. Most schools offer a number of these jobs that include working in the school’s library, cooking meals in the cafeteria, and many other things. On-campus jobs tend to pay less than retail jobs, but they usually offer more flexibility and don’t have minimum work hours requirements.

4. Watch out for signs posted around campus or stapled to trees and telephone poles. Many employers that offer jobs geared toward college students advertise this way. Examples include painting, delivery driving, and telephone sales.

5. Consider working online if you have a talent for writing. In the age of the internet, it’s quite easy to pick up freelance writing jobs and a number of websites offer these to anyone who meets their criteria. An advantage to these jobs is that you can work when it’s convenient for you and they usually pay quite well.

Don’t get discouraged if you aren’t hired at the first place you apply to. Even people with full time careers have to apply for multiple jobs before they are hired, and sometimes this applies to part time jobs too.
